“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
A story of Rushiraj Dixit (2009-2013 Mechatronics Batch)
Rushiraj got admission into University of Toronto, a prestigious institution which is dedicated to research and course work, ranks number 1 in entire Canada and 8th in the field of Engineering and Technology.
After pursuing Mechatronics Engineering at U.V Patel College of Engineering, Ganpat University, he had been preparing for graduate studies in Canada. He got admission into University of Toronto, a prestigious institution which is dedicated to research and course work and ranks number 1 in entire Canada and 8th in the field of Engineering and Technology. He had been offered admission to its Masters in Mechanical Engineering program in the MIE (Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department) at the University of Toronto (UofT). MIE department at the UofT is solely dedicated to research in the field of Mechanical Engineering and is actively funded by Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and various other donors for active research and coursework.
Rushiraj was planning and dreaming of studying in one of the world's best academic institute since his first year at UVPCE. That was the time when he planned to act on his dreams and started working hard to get into UofT. Initially he had no idea what it will take to get an admission from there.
However, when you really want something, you swim to the end of the shore to get it. He did the same. He started contacting seniors who were studying there, anonymously through Facebook. They always guided him and helped him a lot. They were very modest in their opinions. In his opinion, networking in the right manner plays a major role in getting you to a good university.
Although he was a topper in the batch, and always stood amongst the top 2 students in class. He never cared for his grades, until and unless he scored 78%. He never desired for more marks as the minimum limit of applying at UofT was 77%. Academics are surely one of the most important things which help you to secure an admission in a good university, but when one is applying at such globally acclaimed institutions, academics are only like a gate pass. All your peers, your competitors for the institution have good grades. What sets you apart from them is extra-curricular, co-curricular and how you carry them.
“Academic is the strong foundation on which these stepping stones help you in going a long way ahead to achieve your dreams”
He always participated enthusiastically in technical festivals of other colleges, also worked for an NGO named FFE (Foundation for Excellence), did projects which brought him closer to the practical world, played an important role in the college robotics club (He was the technical head) and worked as a team leader for the Mechanical Team for Robocon 2013 where they won Best Rookie Award.
Rushiraj and Jaineel Dalal (2009-2013 Mechatronics Batch) always believed together in one motto,
"Dreams do come true, if you believe in them"
They achieved some great things together. They had revived old robotics club and made it even better. Jaineel and Rushiraj were partners there, where Jaineel focused on all networking and the management aspects of the club and Rushiraj worked hard on its technical aspects. Their partnership did not end there and soon enough in the final year they took the task of leading a rookie team into Robocon 2013.
Last but not the least, Rushiraj and Jaineel also shared a dream of making it to a big university someday. And they had achieved that too.
Rushiraj made it to University of Toronto which ranks 1st in Canada and amongst the top 10 institutes of the world for its Engineering and Technology programs whereas Jaineel made it to Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University which is ranked 1st all over the world for its Robotics program, 5th in USA and 12th all over the world for its Engineering and Technology programs.
